BOYER’S COFFEE™ LAUNCHES MASH-UP™ COFFEE AT WALMART

New Coffees Fuse Single Origin Beans; Offer Pairing Tips, Educational Resources & More

DENVER – July 24, 2018 – Today, Boyer’s Coffee announces the launch of Mash-Up Coffee™, a new line of organic, Specialty Grade coffees exclusively available at Walmart® and online at mashupcoffee.com. Freshly roasted by Boyer’s—a Colorado family-owned company that has been roasting at Rocky Mountain altitude since 1965—Mash-Up is about the art and science of fusing single origin beans to create one new, delicious coffee.

With an SRP of $6.98 per retail bag in Walmart stores, Mash-Up takes the guess-work out of an elevated coffee experience, and invites caffeine drinkers to become coffee snobs without the need to venture to Brooklyn for a $12 pour over. The brand goes above and beyond traditional grocery store coffees to offer consumers a “barista in a bag” experience, believing that coffee is a craft for all to understand, experience and enjoy – and providing the tools for consumers to do so right on the bag. Coffee drinkers are able to utilize their smartphone cameras and a QR code located on the product packaging to go directly to consumer-friendly resources, including a “seed-to-cup” educational course showcasing the growing, roasting and brewing processes; the suggested brewing methods for optimum flavor profiles; food pairing recommendations; recipes; information about the beans and their flavors; and more.

With origins spanning Sumatra, Peru, Costa Rica, Honduras and Colombia—and always ethically sourced and USDA Organic—the Mash-Ups are purposeful pairings with the intent to take consumers beyond their typical cup of joe and through the farm-to-roasting-to-drinking journey.

The Mash-Up Coffees include:

Sumatra + Peru

The strength and spiciness of Sumatra meets the perfect milk chocolate counterpart when paired with coffee grown by our farming friends in the Primero de Mayo community of St. Martin, Peru. If you’re not adventurous enough to join the 1.5-hour mule ride from the trailhead to the farm, follow along as Boyer’s Coffee constructs a school at theschoolthatcoffeebuilt.com.

Suggested Brewing Method: French press

Food Pairings: Chocolate lava cake; dark chocolate almond sea salt bark; espresso chip biscotti

Costa Rica + Honduras

Costa Rican coffees are renowned for their winey-ness and tones of dried fruit. It’s a perfect match when paired with the rich dark chocolate tones of Honduran beans. Exceptionally clean fruit tones of plum give way to a semi-sweet aftertaste you wish would last all day. It’s a versatile, easy drinking coffee that goes perfectly with any meal.

Suggested Brewing Method: Drip coffee maker

Food Pairings: Sugar cookie fruit tart; fruit and cream cheese breakfast pastry; blueberry Greek yogurt muffin

Colombia + Sumatra

Colombian coffees are known for their light fruitiness and citrus acidity, whereas Sumatrans tend to be bold and earthy. What do you get when you combine them? Call it a “rounded sweetness.” The brightness of the Colombian mellows out and balances with the Sumatran body in a fantastically sweet, caramel-like finish.

Suggested Brewing Method: Pour over

Food Pairings: French toast cupcakes with maple buttercream frosting; salted caramel sticky buns; lemon berry mascarpone tart

"We sometimes see examples of the sum being greater than its parts, and that is exactly what Mash-Up Coffees represent for coffee lovers everywhere.” said Douglass Barrow, roastmaster and co-owner of Boyer’s Coffee parent brand, Luna Gourmet Coffee & Tea Company. "We traveled the world to source the best tasting and most unique USDA Organic, single-origin coffees, before fusing them to create new, super delicious coffees for your daily enjoyment. Each coffee bean was selected for its distinct attributes and cup characteristics. Each of the coffees are great on their own, but magic happens when they are put together. From mild to wild, we have the perfect Mash-Up Coffee for you."

Mash-Up Coffees are freshly roasted by Boyer’s Coffee. Founded in 1965 by Bill Boyer, Boyer’s is now owned by brothers Douglass and Jason Barrow, who also own its parent company, Luna Gourmet Coffee & Tea Company, the largest family-owned roaster in Colorado. Only Specialty Grade, 100 percent Arabica beans from the world’s select growing regions are carefully roasted in high-altitude, low-humidity Colorado air to create smooth, fresh and mellow coffees. The coffees are crafted using Boyer’s iconic classic roasters—a 1915 Burns “Jubilee,” and a 1944 Burns “Thermalo”—in combination with modern techniques.

Boyer’s not only reveres the art of the roast, but the entire seed-to-cup journey. The Barrow brothers visit the farming communities from which the beans originate at least once per year, including Sumatra, Peru, Costa Rica and Honduras; thoughtfully pair the beans according to their flavor profiles; and see each Mash-Up through with brewing recommendations and more.

The brothers share a passion for great coffee and a desire to bring good into the world, and Mash-Up Coffees provide more than just a caffeine boost: Every bag of Sumatra + Peru Mash-Up goes toward rebuilding a school in the Peruvian farming community of Primero de Mayo, where Boyer’s works with an agricultural co-op to further support the educational efforts to build social and economic sustainability in the area for generations to come. Proceeds from Boyer’s Peruvian coffees—including the Sumatra + Peru Mash-Up—support the efforts to improve the school, including rebuilding the structure, adding electricity and installing a running water system. Coffee enthusiasts are encouraged to track the school’s progress at theschoolthatcoffeebuilt.com.
